Well-Rounded Individual and Community Contributor

Over the course of AP Art and art classes at SLV in general, I’ve created many works that have gone on to be displayed in community shows as well as around the SLV campus. Doing this has helped me to improve my responsibility, and to be more environmentally friendly when making art.

Starting in sophomore year, my artwork was exhibited in the SLVHS Open House and the Roaring Camp Art and Music Show. Over the course of my junior and senior years, my art has also been a part of five other shows. My last one at SLV will be the Roaring Camp Art and Music Show this May. Having my art in shows like this has given me a unique opportunity to connect with my community, as well as chances to put my work out into the world. This has even put me in the circumstance of doing a commission, and I hope that what I have learned through these shows will help me to get more chances like this in the future.

For each of my past two years at SLV, I have made a painting on a large panel that has been put up on a wall at campus. I really enjoy making art that is displayed at the school, as I feel like it helps to make the campus a little more fun. Although I do not have a specific idea yet, I plan to make another panel soon to conclude my last year of art at SLV. Being able to put artwork in this way is empowering, since it gives other people a chance to see my art and hopefully be inspired to take art classes at SLV.

Participating in the community in these ways has helped me to become more responsible. I have bettered my time management in order to reach important deadlines, and have made sure to only make original artwork in order to maintain my integrity. Additionally, it has inspired me to become more environmentally friendly when I make art. Seeing the waste that can sometimes be a product of art has made me try to recycle materials whenever I can, such as using old plywood pieces as panels to paint on.

I am glad that the art classes at SLV have helped me to connect to my community while simultaneously improving my responsibility, integrity, and environmental caretaking. I feel that the opportunities I have been given in these classes will continue to inspire me as I continue into college and my future.
