LILY LONSDALE - 2024 SENIOR CAPSTONE PROJECT
AP Art has been an amazing part of my high school experience. In the past two years I have been in the class, I have realized how much I enjoy using art as a way to connect myself and others to nature. I have known for a while that I want to pursue an education and career in environmentalism, but AP Art made me realize that I can continue to incorporate creativity into my life, even while pursuing a STEM major.
I am planning to go to a four year university in the fall, somewhere in Oregon or Washington. I want to get my BS in environmental science, with a possible concentration in conservation or sustainability. Although I am not currently planning on art being my main area of study, I still aim to have it be a large part of my life.
Nature is a huge inspiration for my artwork, and in the future, I plan to create more art centered around the natural world. In my past two years of AP Art, I have created portfolios centered around nature. In Junior year, I completed a drawing portfolio dedicated to bringing more awareness to endangered species in California. This year, I am taking AP 3-D Art, and my portfolio is working to explore how humans interact with nature.
My experience in this class helped me explore the various ways I can work to interconnect science and art, and has inspired me to continue this practice into my years of college.
