Master artist: Sergio Bustamente
Current artist: Kim Graham
Ideas: For this project, I was inspired to illustrate how humans interact with nature, and how that interaction changes depending on age.
Materials: I used cardboard fabric tubes, old textbook pages, pencils, tape, and glue to create a realistic tree for my 3-D exhibition. I used old and recycled materials as a way to reduce my waste, which also happens to tie into my inquiry question.
Process: To build the tree, I used cardboard fabric tubes and old boxes to add structure. I then ripped pages out of old textbooks and crumpled them up to add dimension and shape before paper mache-ing over the whole base/trunk of the tree. I then crafted a detachable upper trunk section, which connects to the lower part with dowels. I used remaining fabric tubes and dowels to make the skeleton of the branches, and plan to add pipe cleaners and paper mache to make them look more realistic. I plan to create leaves with a variety of colors and materials, and attach them to the branches later on.
Citation: I used my master artist (Sergio Bustamente) as an inspiration for composition, and my current artist (Kim Graham)as a reference for texture and color.
