Southern Sea Otter
Reference Photo
Colored pencil on tonal paper
9"x11"
Master Artist: John James Audubon
Current Artist: Stephen Park
In this piece, I experimented with using colored pencils to show a sea otter floating in the water. I have never drawn water before, so I had to continually revise as I was working on it. I used the colored pencils for this because I need to work on using my drawing skills to better portray natural elements.
This piece is very important in the theme of endangered animals, as the Southern Sea Otter went near extinct due to oil spills in the 1970's.
I used my master artist as a reference for drawing the water, and my current artist as a reference for the fur of the otter.
